Hello. I'm a pharmacist Jinny.
The life expectancy of women in Korea is about 86.5 years, and considering that the age of menopause is 50 years, almost half of them live in a state of menopause. There is a saying that menopause, which refers to the transition period to menopause, is as long as 10 years. The various physical and mental changes that women undergo during this time are troubling to women.
Common menopausal symptoms include hot flashes, frequent pulse, sweating, fatigue, anxiety, depression, memory loss, and sleep disturbances. Female hormone replacement therapy can be used to improve this, but some people are unable to do so due to the risk of breast cancer, stroke, and heart disease.
So today, I would like to introduce Korea's first menopausal women's health functional ingredient without worrying about the side effects of female hormones, complex extracts such as baeksuo. Baek Shuo and other complex extracts are a compound made by mixing baeksuo, dong quai, and hansokdan, and are attracting more attention as they have been certified for the safety of raw materials by the US FDA, Health Canada, and the European Food Safety Agency. Through research, we will find out how complex extracts such as baekshuo can help menopausal women's health.
One of the most typical symptoms of menopause is insomnia. When estrogen secretion decreases, the secretion of serotonin, a hormone that helps you fall asleep, decreases, making it easier to experience insomnia and depression.
In this regard, it was found that 64 perimenopausal women who were given 514.1 mg/day of Baekshuo complex extract for 12 weeks had reduced menopausal symptoms such as insomnia, depression, and joint pain [1]
"Treatment with EstroG-100 for 12 weeks resulted in statistically significant improvements in various menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, sweating, paresthesia, insomnia, nervousness, depression, dizziness, fatigue, rheumatic pain, and vaginal dryness, compared to placebo."
If you're a menopausal woman, you've probably experienced embarrassment because of your face turning red without even trying. Hot flashes are also one of the most typical symptoms of menopause.
According to a 2018 study in the Journal of Food and Nutrition Research, researchers found that complex extracts such as baekshuo were effective in improving hot flashes by inhibiting the rise in skin temperature [2].
"We found that CPAE (Bai Shuo Complex Extract) was effective in improving hot flashes by inhibiting the increase in the temperature of the tail skin of mice."
Arthritis is said to be more painful than colic. By the way, menopausal women are more susceptible to arthritis. Since estrogen is involved in the activity of chondrocytes, a decrease in estrogen weakens the cartilage and causes inflammation of the synovial membrane around the joints, which puts men at a higher risk of arthritis than men.
However, complex extracts such as baeksuo have been confirmed in a study that can suppress arthritis symptoms in test-tube and animal experiments. In this study, it was found that complex extracts such as baeksuo increased factors necessary for cartilage formation, decreased degenerative arthritis-inducing factors, and effectively suppressed arthritis symptoms [3].
"These results confirm that CPAE effectively suppresses the symptoms of inflammatory-induced osteoarthritis."
Today, we examined the efficacy of complex extracts such as baeksuo that can help the overall menopausal women's health through research. The reason why complex extracts such as baeksuo are even more special is that, as I mentioned earlier, they are safe from the side effects of female hormones.
Most menopausal supplements contain a large amount of phytoestrogens, or some of the ingredients have a similar effect to estrogen in the body. Therefore, if you suffer from a female disease or are estrogen sensitive, you should also be mindful of the intake of these dietary supplements.
However, complex extracts such as baeksuo do not bind to female hormone receptors, so there is a low risk of developing female diseases such as breast cancer [4]. In other words, complex extracts such as baekshuo are menopausal health functional ingredients that anyone can safely consume.
So, I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. It was Jinny.
