3 Benefits of Stone Leaf
1. Reduction of total abdominal fat area and body weight and fat mass2. Reduction of female pattern fat (hip and thigh fat)
3. Reduces triglycerides

Hello. I'm a pharmacist Jinny.

Dear subscribers, can you believe that there are ingredients that work out even if you don't exercise? Just by eating it, it is said to have the effect of running on a treadmill for 30 minutes, and I will introduce you to it right now.

Stone leaf refers to the leaves of the vine plant 'Stone Outer Leaf', and in East Asia, including Korea, the stone leaf has been used as tea since ancient times. Various vitamins, amino acids, polysaccharides, and bioactive substances called saponins* are found in the leaves.

*Saponins: A generic term for glycosides of the tritelpene and steroid family that are widely distributed in the plant kingdom.

Among the saponins contained in stone leaves, Damulin A and Damulin B, in particular, are attracting attention as components that activate AMPK in the body. AMPK is an enzyme that acts as a sensor to maintain energy homeostasis, and when the body's energy is depleted due to hunger or exercise, AMPK is activated to promote fat oxidation. It's to burn fat for energy.

In order to activate AMPK through exercise, it is necessary to run on a treadmill at moderate intensity for about 30 minutes[1], and it is tempting to hear that AMPK activation can be achieved just by eating the sphagnum leaf. Recently, there has been research in academia to use stonium leaf to treat obesity [1].

Now, let's take a closer look at what changes occur in our body when we consume soybean leaves.

1. Reduction of total abdominal fat area and body weight and fat mass

For those who are trying to lose weight, especially middle-aged and elderly people, belly fat is probably the most troublesome area. Compared to the limbs, the belly area moves less and muscle development is slower, so it accumulates more fat than other parts and is difficult to remove.

But did you know that belly fat is more dangerous than we think? This is because visceral fat in belly fat disrupts hormones in the body, causing inflammation. The more belly fat a person has, the worse their blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipid levels are.

Therefore, if you want to lose belly fat, you should try to eat stone leaves consistently. 80 obese Koreans were divided into a take-up group and a placebo group, and only the ingesting group was given 450mg of stone leaf liquor extract powder every day for 12 weeks.

After 12 weeks, the group showed a significant reduction in total abdominal fat area, i.e., body weight, fat mass, body fat percentage, and body mass index (BMI), including belly fat, without safety concerns [2].

"Compared to the placebo group, there was a significant reduction in total abdominal fat area, body weight, fat mass, body fat percentage, and BMI during the 12-week supplementation of the soybean leaf extract. No clinically significant changes were observed in any safety parameters."
2. Reduces gynecomastia (hip and thigh fat)

There is another interesting study related to the fat reduction effect of sphagnomy, and I would like to introduce it to you.

If belly fat is a problem for both men and women, lower body obesity tends to be especially prevalent in women. This is because female hormones cause more fat to accumulate in the area from the belly to the buttocks and thighs.

Last year, a study reported that eating sphagia also reduced fat deposits in the buttocks and thighs, also known as gynecomastia.

In this study, obese participants with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 25 but less than 35 were given 450 mg of soybean leaf extract daily for 16 weeks. As a result, in addition to a decrease in body weight and total fat mass, gynecomastia was also shown to decrease in the female group [3].

"After 16 weeks of treatment, the group showed significant reductions in total body weight, body mass index, total fat mass, and gynecomastia fat mass compared to the placebo group. The female group showed a significant reduction in gynecomastia fat compared to the female placebo group."

3. Reduces triglycerides

If you are on a diet, you should not only be wary of the outward appearance. We also need to take care of our triglycerides, which are invisible to our eyes but slowly destroy our body. This is because high levels of triglycerides can cause LDL cholesterol, which is bad cholesterol, to accumulate in the walls of blood vessels, which can lead to atherosclerosis.

Young people, especially those who appear to be relatively thin, have high triglyceride levels when they have blood tests. Therefore, it is recommended that you check your triglyceride levels from now on.

Previous studies have shown that it helps reduce blood triglyceride levels as well as body fat [4].

"After 16 weeks of treatment, there were statistically significant changes in several blood markers, including plasma triglycerides."

Today, we looked at the diet effect of gypsum leaf on activating AMPK through research. It has been shown that not only does it significantly reduce body weight when consumed, but it can also help with abdominal obesity and lower body obesity, which women are particularly worried about. In addition, it has the effect of improving triglyceride levels, which threaten vascular health, making it a more encouraging material for the management of obesity and various adult diseases.

Although it is a material that has been recognized for its functionality and safety by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, it can cause gastrointestinal upset if it is consumed above the daily intake of 450mg. In addition, the two studies mentioned above have also shown that a dose of 450 mg per day is sufficient for dieting, so it is recommended to take it consistently for 8 to 16 weeks rather than over-consuming it.

So, I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. It was Jinny.
