Trauma is something that you don't normally experience, but it's so horrible and severe that the memory can't easily leave your brain.
It's usually about death. For example, you were in a car accident and you almost got hit by a car, or you saw someone die next to you, or you saw someone close to die.
That frightening scene keeps coming back to me even though I'm in my mind, and I wake up often because I remember that scene in my dreams. They are also hypersensitive and easily startled by the slightest sound. They may be irritable or, on the contrary, completely numb. Physical symptoms include headaches, but may also include indigestion and hand tremors.
To put it simply, the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) vary to the point that most of the symptoms that can be found in a psychiatric clinic are present.
With such post-traumatic stress disorder, the first month after the trauma is very important. How well you tolerate a month can make the difference between developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or an acute stress response. That's why every month is so important.
What if you're traumatized?
First, you need to have a conversation. You need to make time to talk to someone you trust who understands how you feel and what you're going through. This is very important.
The second is social support. I mentioned earlier that not all trauma leads to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). There are risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder. For example, people who have had a mental illness in the past, who are very young or very old, or who have recently been in another stressful situation, are more likely to develop post-traumatic stress disorder.
However, if you feel that society is willing to help you when this happens to you, it prevents it from developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These are called 'protective factors'. Even though things are hard, you have to let them know that society is not such a dangerous place and that there are people who are willing to help. To add a little bit here, people who have been through some trauma may not be able to speak well. Even so, you can wait for them and send them a message that they will listen to you whenever you want.
Friends and family need to give you a little practical help. For example, if you say you can't eat well because of trauma, your friend will bring you his favorite food. Also, there are many cases where they can't do housework because they don't have the energy. Then you also need this kind of personal support to take out the trash. This personal support builds up to become societal support.
