First, blood pressure medication
If you have high blood pressure, you must take your blood pressure medication the morning of your endoscopy. This is because blood pressure can rise before and after endoscopy. It is recommended that you take high blood pressure medication with a small amount of water at least 3 hours before your screening.
Second, diabetes medication
On the morning of the checkup, you will be fasting, so if you take diabetes medication, there is a risk of hypoglycemia. After the check-up, you can take your diabetes medication before eating. However, a diabetes drug called 'matformin' can cause lactic acid acidosis or have adverse effects on the kidneys when used during CT scans using contrast media. As a result of the blood test, the glomerular filtration rate is between 30~59, and the drug should be discontinued 48 hours before the examination.
Third, antithrombotic drugs
If you are taking antithrombotic or anticoagulant medications, you should first talk to your doctor about whether you can stop taking them, as there is a risk of bleeding. Those who cannot stop antithrombotic drugs should only have a diagnostic endoscopy, and if polyps are found in the future, they should visit a gastroenterologist to remove the polyps. The most important rule is that you should not worsen your underlying medical condition while undergoing a checkup.
