The Difference Between Therapy and Healing

While therapy refers to the care that a patient receives from the outside, healing is a change that takes place on the inside of the patient. Hippocrates said, "Everyone has a doctor in their body, and we should help him do his job well." In other words, the doctor's ultimate goal should be to heal the patient.

But can this kind of healing be achieved with medical technology alone? In this regard, the direction of medicine around the world is trending towards integrative medicine. In epigenetics, in particular, psychological aspects such as nutrition and stress management inhibit cancer gene activity and increase healthy gene activity. In order to reach our ultimate goal of healing patients, we need integrated care that goes beyond conventional drug prescription and surgery-centered treatment.
10 Healing Habits
1. Exercise

Physical habits can be summarized in three elements of healing: exercise, diet, and appropriate supplements. Many people in Korea feel the importance of food due to the media and practice a healthy diet, but they don't seem to think about exercise. Especially for patients, exercise may sound very distant because their physical strength is compromised. However, it's important to note that exercise is a very important component of healing for patients, and it's not just about sweating in a specific place, it's also about increasing movement in your life. Even if you have limited mobility and need to stay in bed, it can be helpful to increase your movements, even through physical therapy.

In fact, there are two degrees of exercise that are known to help heal cancer.

The first is high-intensity, intermittent exercise. It has been shown that intermittent exercise is much more effective than exercising at the same intensity for 20 minutes for a long time, followed by a 5-minute break.

The second is exercise to increase lymphatic circulation. Lymphatic fluid* cleans the body and transports immune cells to boost immunity, such as jumping in place or lifting your ankles against a wall.
*Lymphatic fluid: A colorless fluid that fills between tissues.

In addition to these two exercises, remember to increase movement in your daily life.

2. Change your diet & The right supplements can help, too

Among the diets, the plant-based diet, the Mediterranean diet, and the ketogenic diet are three that are known to help cure cancer. They commonly recommend eating fewer processed foods, refined carbohydrates, and red meat, while eating more plant-based foods and unrefined whole grains. This diet reduces inflammation in the body and increases the body's ability to increase immune cells and eventually eliminate cancer cells.

Of course, sticking to a single meal won't help everyone. It's important to make adjustments to your diet and adapt it to your body. It's important to note that the right diet and supplements may vary depending on the individual.

3. Take control of your health & follow your intuition

We often tell our children that they need to be self-directed. However, the area where this kind of self-directed learning is most needed is health. Because the doctor is an expert in disease, but you are the expert on yourself. It is also the patient's job to change and implement their eating habits and lifestyle, and to find what is feasible for their lives. To do this self-directed health method, you need to listen to your inner voice with intuition.

4. Cultivate positive emotions

When you think of positive emotions, what do you think of? In general, it is easy to associate only dramatic emotions such as joy or laughter, but the most fundamental of these is loving yourself. And to love yourself is to see yourself as you are. Instead of changing yourself to fit others, you should start by respecting yourself for who you are, including the negatives.

To do this, one thing to note is that it is natural for a person's mood to change. How can I be positive and joyful every day? On the contrary, the idea that you should have positive emotions can turn into a compulsion. When we have emotions such as anxiety or fear, avoiding them or feeling guilty suppresses our natural emotions. Instead of thinking that you should always have positive emotions, it's enough to have a pleasant thought for five minutes, like brushing your teeth, or to do an enjoyable activity.

5. Release pent-up emotions

Releasing pent-up emotions is also one of the most difficult habits of the 10 healing elements. In our society, we tend to categorize natural emotions in a binary of positive and negative categories. We may or may not be conscious of it, but we have so many emotions that we have suppressed without even realizing it. These pent-up feelings can manifest in a variety of physical symptoms.

In order to release your emotions, you need to let them flow instead of having a preconceived notion that negative emotions are also negative. For example, let's say we're at the bottom of a waterfall of emotions. There will be positive emotions and negative emotions. But it's going to come down from the top down, so it's going to soak us down and then flow back down to the ground. It would be helpful to imagine such an image.
6. Find a compelling reason to live

Regardless of what the reason is, I would say you need to find a compelling reason to live. What makes me wake up in the morning, and what makes me want to live one more day, is a powerful reason to live. There is a huge difference between not wanting to die and wanting to live. The effects on our bodies are very different. Feelings of avoidance or fear of not wanting to die trigger a fight-or-flight response* in our bodies, which increases stress hormones in our bodies and weakens our immune system. However, when people have a reason to live or a sense of purpose, their bodies release substances such as endorphins and dopamine. It's a physiological effect on our bodies. You have to find a compelling reason to live.

7. Strengthen your spiritual connection

The word spiritual connection means that it is important to take time to connect with your own inner self. Depending on the person, it could be prayer, meditation, or a walk in nature. The important thing is that when we encounter inner stillness through this process, various changes occur in our bodies. First, your breathing slows down, your heart beats, and your body releases a number of healing substances. As a result, your immunity will be boosted. Modern people who think a lot do not have a good time resting. So, through this conscious act of facing your inner self, you need to reduce stress hormones and increase the release of dopamine and serotonin.

Advice on Habits

Important habits vary from person to person. For some people, it may be more psychological, and for others, it may be difficult for them to exercise. If you think you must follow all 10 habits, it can also be stressful. Instead, it would be better to choose one of the elements introduced today that you are attracted to according to your intuition, practice it consistently, and gradually increase your habits as your body changes.

The mind and body interact with each other. For those who suffer from anxiety or depression, I advise them to use their bodies instead of focusing on psychological things. If you dig into it psychologically, you will think a lot, but if you use your body, you will not have any thoughts. It is a well-known scientific fact that exercise is the most powerful antidepressant. Conversely, physical problems such as indigestion, sleeplessness, headaches, and pain may be the result of problems with the mind. In such a case, there is a reason to look at whether you are stressed or if you are feeling psychologically frustrated.

There are many cases where cancer patients withdraw from all social activities after being diagnosed with cancer. If you're not stressed, I'd tell you to keep your social life and work. Don't let cancer be your everything, your identity. You have to live a normal life, as if you were suffering from a lifelong illness, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, that you will have to heal for the rest of your life.
