When you're stressed and nervous, theanine is effective
anxiety
Hello. I'm a pharmacist Jinny.
It's inevitable to feel a little nervous when you're taking an important exam or giving a presentation. However, there have been times when you have been upset that you didn't perform as well as you had prepared due to excessive tension. That's why today I'd like to introduce theanine to those who are usually nervous in stressful situations.
Theanine is a type of amino acid that is abundant in green tea, and it is the ingredient that gives green tea its sweetness and umami. It has the effect of lowering tension, and has been recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as "able to help relieve tension caused by stress."
So, let's take a look at how theanine intake can help relieve tension through a paper.
When our minds are on edge, we are often called "anxious." When anxiety increases, it is difficult to get a good night's sleep, and you get tired and exhausted easily, as well as physical pain that feels like a tightness in your chest.
In this regard, a 2012 study was published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology with the results of a study showing that theanine consumption lowered anxiety [1].
"The results of the emotional state profile after the mental task also showed that L-theanine lowered tension-anxiety scores compared to placebo intake."
When a person is anxious, their ability to concentrate decreases as well. If you lose concentration, your progress on the task will drop significantly, even if you invest the same amount of time.
In this regard, a 2011 study in the Journal of Functional Foods showed that theanine supplementation improved concentration in subjects with high anxiety levels [2].
"The results clearly showed that L-theanine had a significant effect on attentional performance and reaction time responses in healthy subjects with high anxiety."
When you're stressed, don't you say "your blood pressure goes up"? In fact, when you're stressed, your sympathetic nervous system gets excited, stimulating the release of hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, which constricts your blood vessels and makes your heart beat faster, which raises your blood pressure. So, if you have high blood pressure, you need to manage your stress well.
The paper below describes the effects of theanine intake on systolic and diastolic blood pressure after stressful situations [3].
"Oral administration of L-theanine significantly altered both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the high-response group in the second half of the psychiatric task (AMT) compared to the placebo condition."
Today, we looked at the benefits of taking theanine in a paper. Theanine is antagonistic to caffeine and should not be taken in conjunction with caffeinated beverages such as coffee, black tea, and green tea.
I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. It was Jinny.
