Eat it makes you taller, the amazing benefits of fermented oyster extract
. Increased
Height Growth Rate
Hello. I'm a pharmacist Jinny.
"How tall is my child?" is a common concern among parents with growing children. Especially if your child is smaller than your peers, parents may be worried.
Today, I would like to introduce 'Fermented Oyster Extract' for parents who are worried about their child's height.Oysters are known to promote bone formation due to their high calcium content, and several studies have shown that they prevent osteoclast differentiation and promote bone formation [1-2]. Fermented oyster extracts obtained by fermenting these oysters have been found to have a positive effect on the growth of children's kidneys through human application tests.
So, let's find out how fermented oyster extract can help children's kidney growth specifically through this paper.
Genetic factors have the greatest influence on a child's kidney growth, but there are also a combination of other factors such as nutritional status and hormones. Therefore, the growth pattern varies from person to person. In general, it is known that children grow about 4~6cm per year from the age of 3 until puberty [3].
In a 2021 clinical trial on the relationship between fermented oyster extract and kidney growth in children, the average difference in kidney growth was approximately 0.75 cm in the male group and 0.66 cm in the female group compared to the placebo group when fermented oyster extract was taken for 24 weeks compared to the placebo group. The researchers interpreted these results as a significant improvement considering that the growth rate is about 4~6 cm per year [4].
Usually, the period from birth to the age of 3 is called the first growth spurt, and the period of rapid growth after puberty is called the second growth spurt. In particular, growth stops after puberty ends, so it is important to keep the golden time of height growth.
When 100 children were given fermented oyster extract, it was found that fermented oyster extract had a positive effect on the child's height growth rate [5].
"Treatment outcomes showed positive results in height growth rate and height standard deviation scores."
So, how can fermented oyster extract affect height growth in children? This is because fermented oyster extract is associated with serum IGFBP-3 levels. IGFBP-3 plays an essential role in stimulating the hypertrophy of the growth plates. In animal studies, fermented oyster extract was shown to increase serum IGFBP-3 levels [6].
In human trials, similar results were found in animal experiments. Both the fermented oyster extract and placebo groups showed a decrease in serum IGFBP-3 levels, but the fermented oyster extract group showed a smaller decrease in serum levels compared to the placebo group [7].
"However, serum IGFBP-3 levels in the fermented oyster extract group were less reduced than in the placebo group."
Today, we examined how fermented oyster extract affects height growth in children through an SCI-level paper. Studies have reported that fermented oyster extract may help with height growth and bone development in children, but further research is needed on the exact mechanism by which it affects height growth.
Lastly, here are some taller lifestyle habits that you can implement in your daily life.
First, aerobic exercise. Exercise has been shown to help stimulate growth hormone secretion, especially aerobic exercise, which has been shown to cause a rapid increase in growth hormone secretion [8]. Therefore, if you do regular exercise every day, such as jumping rope or riding a bicycle, it can help you grow taller.
Next, it goes without saying that you need to get enough nutrition for height growth, but childhood obesity can actually hinder your growth. This is because childhood obesity increases the level of sex hormones [9]. When sex hormones are secreted, height growth and bone maturation are accelerated, which can cause the growth plates to close prematurely, so you need to be careful not to become obese.
So, I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. It was Jinny.
