U.S. President Trump is said to have taken vitamin D during treatment when he contracted COVID!
Vitamin D is known to help the body absorb calcium, strengthen bones, and play an important role in the innate and acquired immune system. Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has been hypothesized that vitamin D helps prevent COVID infection and prevent worsening of the disease, and many researchers in Korea and abroad have been working to prove it.
Coronaviruses enter the body using the ACE2 protein on the surface of cells, and vitamin D was thought to affect this pathway because it interacts with ACE2.
However, a recent review paper by Korean researchers revealed the specific mechanism. Professor Lim so and his team from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital analyzed domestic and international studies related to COVID-19 and vitamin D and found that "the lower the concentration of vitamin D in the blood, the worse the risk and severity of COVID-19 infection, and supplementation reduces the positivity rate of coronavirus, worsening of severity, and mortality.
What is the mechanism by which vitamin D affects the severity of COVID infection?
And in these pandemic times, what's the right way to take vitamin D?
Check it out in the video.
