Scleroderma is a disease in which collagen fibers accumulate in a part of the skin or throughout the body, causing them to become hard. Scleroderma that appears in a part of the skin is divided into ecchymosis and glandular sclerosis according to its shape. The ecchymosis that we are going to talk about today refers to lesions that do not rise above the skin, but only change color.
ecchymosis can occur on any area of the skin. They are usually about the size of an egg, but can grow to the size of an adult's palm. It is common for the color to turn brown with a clear boundary between normal skin and white, but it can also be confused with vitiligo* because it turns white.
*Vitiligo: A condition in which white spots of various sizes and shapes appear on the skin.
There is no need to worry about ecchymosis, as it does not affect the internal organs and does not spread to the whole body.
In ecchymosis, the size of the lesion gradually increases over 6 months~1 year, and it heals spontaneously after 1~2 years. If you visit a dermatologist at the stage of spreading the lesion, he will prescribe oral medication to prevent the lesion from spreading further. If the disease is already quite advanced, treatment may be limited to vitamin D ointment, steroid ointment, or injections to relieve the symptoms of sclerosis.
Since ecchymosis is not caused by pigmentation, but rather changes that occur deep inside the skin, it is unfortunately difficult to remove the traces with a laser or medicine.
However, I would like to emphasize once again that ecchymosis does not cause problems in the internal organs and can be cured naturally, so there is no need to worry too much medically.
