"Six dermatologists
How to take care of your skin"
Medical Trivia
"I felt refreshed at the beach, but my skin condition got worse."
"My skin was red-hot from the sun and I had blemishes."
A skin disease that came like an uninvited guest after a fun vacation! We asked six dermatologists about their know-how on how to rest your skin after a summer vacation. Among them, gauze soaked in saline solution is a method commonly recommended by dermatologists to soothe the skin. Here are some of the contents based on accurate medical knowledge. Interviews are published in alphabetical order.

◆ For skin diseases, 'cooling' and 'astringent'
But for those of you who can't go to the doctor before or right away, here's a tip to ease the pain at home. The keywords are 'cooling' and 'convergence'. Cold, moist lesions (although the problem caused by dampness actually gets better as they dry out) is a common method for all skin lesions that worsen in summer.
Cold compression is one of the types of physiotherapy that can be found in dermatology books. It's excellent for soothing sores and itching inflammatory diseases that have a sore or moist surface. It's easy enough to try at home, and it's worth it. You can moisten a clean gauze with cold sterile saline solution and place it on the problematic area for 10~15 minutes.
Cold compresses? That's right. However, since this method additionally produces an astringent effect caused by the evaporation of the saline solution, it may be more advantageous in an inflamed state of the skin than using a compress with a material such as an ice pack based on contact alone.
Isn't potato or cucumber packs better? No, it is not. Cucumbers and potatoes are expensive these days, so enjoy them and try to relieve the inconvenience simply with gauze and saline that cost a few hundred won.
◆ Lowering skin temperature
It's a good idea to use a cool towel to gradually and steadily reduce the temperature of your skin. We don't recommend using ice packs or showers to reduce the temperature of your skin quickly. This is because sudden changes in temperature can irritate the skin.
If the symptoms of sunburn are severe, there is a home care method that can be done at home as an emergency treatment, and there is a wet compress. It is helpful to cool gauze soaked in saline solution and apply a water compress (compress) for about 10 minutes, 3~4 times a day.
Any mask that cools the temperature of the skin is helpful. It's also a good idea to chill the milk. However, if you use natural ingredients, you need to be careful because they can cause irritation in a weakened state. If you feel irritated or itchy when using a natural mask, stop immediately and wash it off.
◆ Be careful to cleanse, scrub, exfoliate
Excessive soap, scrubbing, and exfoliation after a vacation can irritate the skin and should be avoided. It's also a good idea to refrain from using cosmetics that contain whitening ingredients or various ingredients. This is because excessive makeup itself can irritate the skin. In particular, it can be difficult to cleanse to remove makeup, so it is recommended to wear lighter makeup than usual.
◆ How to deal with sunburn
When a sunburn occurs, the most important thing is to cool the affected area. It's a good idea to use a cool towel rather than an ice pack. It is also helpful to use aloe gel and cucumber packs that have skin cooling and astringent properties. However, it can dry out your skin, so it's best to apply a moisturizer after applying the mask. In the case of severe sunburn, it is recommended to apply a steroid-based dermatitis ointment and take an antipyretic such as Tylenol.

◆ If the skin peels off thinly or blisters occur
If the skin peels off thinly or blisters appear, it is a sunburn. If blisters occur, you can think of them as second-degree sunburns. In this case, you should avoid popping the blisters and get proper disinfection and dressing at a nearby dermatologist.
If your skin is peeling thinly, you may feel tempted to tear it off. However, you should never peel it off. Skin If you peel it off, it can peel off the normal skin, which can worsen inflammation or lead to a secondary bacterial infection.
Thin peeling of the skin or blisters are all indications of a lack of skin barrier function. The skin can become very dry and itchy. Moisturizers should be used appropriately to restore the skin's barrier function.
In addition, skin care devices such as SonoStyler (a device that uses 13MHz medical high-density ultrasound) and Ionzyme (a device that penetrates activated vitamin C deep into the skin using ionphoresis method) can continuously moisturize the face and improve the skin barrier function.
◆ How to take care of your home
In order to shorten the normal recovery period of the skin, it is necessary to apply moisturizers in the form of creams, balms, or lotions that have strong moisturizing power and are easily absorbed. If the skin is slightly acidic, the barrier repair function is improved, so it is recommended to use a mildly acidic cleanser (products with a pH of 5.5 or lower).
◆ How to deal with sunburn
Sunburn occurs when the sun is exposed to too much sun, and it depends on the degree of sun exposure and the degree of protection of the individual's skin.
Erythema or skin tenderness begins 1~4 hours after sun exposure, and it is the most severe after about a day and can last for about 3 days. Swelling and blisters can occur in rare cases when exposed to the sun, and if accompanied by severe pain, they can be painful enough to keep you awake.
Medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen, which reduce pain, are helpful to take early after exposure. If the symptoms are severe, oral steroids and ointments can be used to improve the symptoms quickly.
In rare cases, if you complain of chills, severe fever, dizziness, or headache, you should be careful because it may be a sunstroke. Sunburns can be accompanied by dehydration, so make sure you drink plenty of water or ionic fluids.
How does dermatology treat excessive UV damage? In the beginning, soothing care is done using moist dressings, moisturizing masks or packs, and LEDs. After 2~3 days, high-density ultrasound waves can be used to quickly restore the skin barrier and edema damaged by ultraviolet rays.
