[Efficacy of Coenzyme Q10] Three effects of Coenzyme Q10 that block active oxygen, the main culprit of aging

If you are at an age where aging is progressing, you should pay attention to coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 Benefits
1. Improves high
blood pressure 2. Improves blood sugar control
3. Improving athletic performance

This is Jinny, the pharmacist.

Aging of the body is a human destiny that neither I who writes this article nor everyone who reads it can avoid. In general, our bodies begin to deteriorate at the age of 30, and when we reach our mid-40s, we feel signs of aging centered on joints, muscles, and eyes. Their resistance weakens, making them more susceptible to disease.

The level of deterioration of body organs due to aging depends on how well the cells in it function . That is, there are no specific signs of aging. This is the reason why Coenzyme Q10 , the ingredient I will be introducing today, is known as a representative anti-aging nutrient

Coenzyme Q10 is a nutrient that plays an essential role in the proper functioning of mitochondria, the energy factories within cells, and at the same time protects cells through antioxidant action . The benefits of ingestion have also been studied from various angles, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has recognized coenzyme Q10 as a functional raw material for blood pressure and antioxidants.

Today, through an academic study on coenzyme Q10, a representative anti-aging nutrient, we will look at how coenzyme Q10 can contribute to preventing aging in our body.

1.  Improves high blood pressure

According to the National Health Insurance Corporation, the number of hypertension patients in Korea last year was 13.74 million. This means that 1 out of 4 adults over the age of 20 has high blood pressure. Hypertension , which means abnormally high arterial blood pressure, is the main cause of aging of blood vessels, and at the same time, it is also a phenomenon of aging of blood vessels . In addition, it is easy to spread to complications such as angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and cerebrovascular disease.

The anti-hypertensive benefits of coenzyme Q10, a representative anti-aging nutrient, have been reported in academia since 1994. P Langsjoen and researchers (1994) evaluated the effect of coenzyme Q10 intake on blood pressure in 109 patients with essential hypertension and reported that systolic and diastolic blood pressure were improved.

" Overall NYHA (New York Heart Association) functional ratings improved from a mean of 2.40 to 1.36 (P<0.001), and 51% of patients completely discontinued 1 to 3 antihypertensive drugs at a mean of 4.4 months after starting CoQ10. "

2. Improved blood sugar control

Among the functions that decline with age is the ability to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. In particular , it is known that after the age of 50, the ability to control blood sugar after meals steadily declines every 10 years . This phenomenon is interpreted as the result of comprehensively reflecting various factors such as increase in visceral fat, decrease in muscle mass, and decrease in insulin sensitivity accompanying biological aging.

Recently, however, it has been hypothesized that dysfunction of mitochondria in cells due to aging is the root cause of the decline in blood sugar control ability. Accordingly, the blood sugar control benefit of coenzyme Q10, an important nutrient for mitochondrial function, was evaluated. In a human application test targeting 50 diabetic patients, the benefit of improving blood sugar control of coenzyme Q10 was reported.

" The results of this study show that supplementation with coenzyme Q10 for 12 weeks can improve glycemic control independent of lipid profile in diabetic patients. "

Effects of CoQ10 supplementation on lipid profiles and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes: a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial. Journal of Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders, 13(1), 1-8.
3. Improving athletic performance

The decrease in muscle mass, which was previously pointed out as one of the causes of the decline in blood sugar control ability due to aging, is also a natural phenomenon due to aging. Since muscle mass tends to continuously decrease from the age of 30 , experts always suggest exercise as the basis for maintaining health. However, deterioration of cardiorespiratory function, muscle, and skeletal system due to aging is also a factor that makes exercise difficult.

As a representative anti-aging nutrient, coenzyme Q10 is known to affect exercise performance. Cooke, M, and researchers who evaluated the effects of single or continuous intake of coenzyme Q10 on exercise performance reported that intake of coenzyme Q10 improved exercise performance in both aerobic and anaerobic exercise .

" Continuous supplementation of coenzyme Q10 increased plasma coenzyme Q10 concentrations and increased exercise time during exhaustion. These results indicate that coenzyme Q10 supplementation affects exercise performance in various types of exercise. "

Effects of acute and 14-day coenzyme Q10 supplementation on exercise performance in both trained and untrained individuals. Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 5(1), 8.

Today, we learned about coenzyme Q10, a representative anti-aging nutrient. As it is an ingredient with many benefits for not only blood pressure and blood sugar, which should be taken care of according to aging, but also exercise performance, if you have a moment where you feel your age, I would like you to pay attention.

In addition, if you are taking coenzyme Q10, it is recommended that you take it after a meal rather than on an empty stomach, and in the morning or during the day rather than in the evening. In addition, since most of the human body application tests evaluate the intake for 6 months, it is important to take it steadily.

I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. It was Jinny.
