Hello. This is Jinny, the pharmacist.
Regardless of gender or age, the craving for beauty seldom goes away. Therefore, today, I would like to introduce 'Swallow's Nest' , which has been regarded as a luxury beauty material since ancient times.
A swallow's nest is a nest made by swallows in caves or cliffs by mixing seaweed and fish bones with saliva. Therefore , it was used as a soup dish for Chinese emperors and is said to have been enjoyed  by Yang Guifei and Cixi Empress Dowager Cixi .
Regarding such a swallow's nest, <Benchogangmok> said that it 'replenishes stagnation' , and <Hongloumong> described it as a 'food that clears the skin' . Now, let's look at the efficacy of the bird's nest revealed through research papers.

1. Skin photoaging and wound/inflammation improvement
The traces of the years that appeared on the face do not seem to be welcome to anyone. However, there are different types of skin aging. There is 'intrinsic aging', which belongs to natural aging that cannot be resisted, and 'extrinsic aging', which occurs due to external causes such as sunlight. Sunlight is known  to be the main culprit in destroying collagen in the skin .
In 2020, the results of a study on what benefits a swallow's nest extract, that is, a swallow's nest extract, can give to human skin, were published.

"  These results mean that EBN (edible bird's nest) can improve skin photoaging caused by UVB (a type of ultraviolet light) and wounds and inflammation caused by NF‑α/ IFN‑γ, resulting in rapid healing. do. ”

2. Improving bone strength and skin aging in postmenopausal women
Both men and women undergo inevitable aging, but women in particular experience rapid body changes after menopause . The balance of the autonomic nervous system is disrupted, causing extreme mood swings and vasomotor disorders accompanied by excitement, flushing, and insomnia. In addition, the secretion of female hormones, which play a role in protecting bones, is reduced, which increases the risk of osteoporosis
According to a 2012 paper reviewing the medical functions of bird's nest extract , it can be seen that bird's nest extract has benefits for postmenopausal women as well.

“  This proves that edible bird nests can be used to improve bone strength and skin aging in postmenopausal women. ”

3. Boosts immunity
Not only this. Swallow's nest contains sialic acid, various amino acids, glycoproteins, and minerals , so it is also known to have  an immune-enhancing function .
A paper published in Trends in Food Science & Technology in 2021 reviewed the various benefits of bird's nest as a potential functional food, then reported   on its effect on immune function :

“  ESN (edible bird's nest) contains sialic acid, which plays a role in mediating the immune system. (Omitted) In essence, the presence of sialic acid helps to limit and prevent the migration of pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and other harmful microorganisms. Serine, valine, tyrosine, and isoleucine contained in ESN (edible bird's nest) also contribute to enhancing immunity through the production of immunoglobulins and antibodies. ”

We looked at the bird 's nest, which has been widely studied for its nutritional value beyond China's beauty material in the past As much as a drastic cold has been announced from this week, I hope you will pay more attention to your health care.
I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. It was Jinny.
