St. John's wort, also called  Hypericum perforatum or  goat grass  by its scientific name, is known to play a role in  increasing the concentration in the body  by preventing the reuptake of neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline  and inhibiting metabolism  . It contributes  to improving anxiety  , lethargy, and depression, and  is used pharmacologically in Europe and the United States.
1. Improvement of Depression Symptoms

As it has been used with such a long tradition,  numerous studies and clinical trials have been conducted to evaluate its usefulness as an antidepressant  .  In 2008, the  results of a meta-research that comprehensively reviewed  existing papers  on St. John's wort extract were published. In this study, the results of reviewing  the major clinical studies  of St. John's wort extract  are reported as follows.
" St. John's wort extract tested in clinical trials is  a) superior to placebo in patients with major depression;  b) similarly effective as standard antidepressants;  C) fewer side effects than standard antidepressants "

2. Improvement of symptoms of seasonal affective disorder
Have you ever experienced a feeling of being depressed regularly in the fall or winter and getting  better in the spring and summer  These symptoms are  called  'Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)' and are sometimes classified into subgroups of depression based  on the severity of the symptoms  . 
In a paper published in the  Journal of geriatric psychiatry and neurology ,  a clinical study was conducted on the improvement of seasonal affective disorder  of St. John's wort extract, and the results were  reported as follows. 
" Our data suggest  that pharmacological treatment with St. John's wort extract may be an  effective management modality for seasonal affective disorder symptoms. "

3. Improvement of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is  a physical and emotional discomfort  that begins before the onset of menstruation  and  is characterized by irritability, anxiety, severe mood changes, and depression . It is known to occur  in  about 20-50% of women of childbearing age , and it can be said that it is one of the inconveniences that has become a daily routine for many women  . 
 
Following several research reports on the  improvement of depression  of St. John's wort extract  , in 2010, a clinical study on the improvement of premenstrual syndrome (PMS)  of St. John's wort extract was reported . 
" St. John's wort extract is more effective than placebo in the improvement of major physical and behavioral symptoms  associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS)  . "
