MSM Efficacy
1. Strengthen immune function 2. Anti-inflammatory 3. Antioxidant
Hello, I am a pharmacist reading a dissertation.
Recently, as interest in strengthening immune function has increased, many people are paying attention to vitamin C. Dr. Carl Pfeiffer, a world-renowned nutritionist, once said, “If the 20th century was the age of vitamins, the 21st century is the age of dietary sulfur (MSM) . ”
Dietary sulfur literally means edible sulfur. MSM (Methyl-sulfonyl-methane), which is well known as an ingredient good for joints, is dietary sulfur . This component is the most abundant mineral found in the human body after calcium and phosphorus, and performs various functions related to the immune system in addition to joint health.
1. Strengthen immune function
I think that the ingredient that strengthens the immune function is a topic of interest to many people these days. The strengthening effect of MSM on the immune system has been proven through continuous research, and studies on the mechanism of strengthening the immune system of MSM are now underway.
In 2017, Nutrients published the results of a meta-research that comprehensively reviewed existing papers on MSM. This study introduces immune enhancement as a major mechanism of MSM.
“ Sulfur-containing compounds, including MSM, play an important role in supporting the immune response. MSM modulates the immune response by intervening between oxidative stress and inflammation ”

2. Anti-inflammatory
Biochemist Robert Hussler, who registered a patent for the pharmaceutical use of MSM, said that MSM is effective in alleviating the allergic reaction caused by the ingestion of aspirin and other drugs, and is useful in preventing gastrointestinal disorders caused by ingestion of drugs such as aspirin . have reported.
In 2017, Eur J Pharmacol published a paper supporting Robert Hustler's claim, elucidating the protective mechanism of MSM against gastric mucosal damage.
" These data suggest that MSM may reduce the severity of ethanol/HCI-induced gastric mucosal injury through inhibition of oxidative stress and inflammation. "

3. Antioxidant
As revealed in the previous study, the anti-inflammatory mechanism of MSM is related to the inhibition of oxidative stress. Accordingly, the oxidative stress inhibition and antioxidant effects of MSM are also continuously receiving attention from researchers, and related research reports are accumulating.
The Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research published a paper evaluating the effect of MSM on oxidative stress improvement in 2013 .

Above, we briefly reviewed the major functions of MSM that have been verified by the academic community.
I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. More than that, it was Jinny.
