Omega 3,

From blood circulation health

to improve inflammation

Omega 3 Benefits
1. Reduce blood triglycerides
2. Improvement of dry eye symptoms
3. Improves inflammation

This is Jinny, the pharmacist.

I don't think there is anyone who doesn't know about Omega 3 . Omega 3 is a type of unsaturated fatty acid, an essential fatty acid that is absolutely necessary for the human body, but cannot be synthesized in the body. Therefore, many people are aware of the importance of omega 3, especially the benefits related to blood circulation, and are actively taking it in the form of food or supplements.

However, to think that omega 3 only helps improve blood circulation, it is an ingredient with infinite benefits when consumed. I have actually been taking around 1,000 mg of omega 3 a day for 3 years for 'inflammation management' . So, let's take a look at the various benefits of omega 3 through today's research .

1. Reduce blood triglycerides

You've probably heard a lot about the need to manage neutral fat for blood vessel health. Triglycerides are a type of fat synthesized in the body, and are sometimes broken down and used as an energy source when caloric intake is insufficient. However, when blood triglycerides increase, the production of bad LDL cholesterol and the decomposition of good HDL cholesterol accelerates, which can cause arteriosclerosis.

In this regard , a paper was published in the Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal in 2008 showing that blood triglyceride levels decreased when omega 3 was consumed .

“ In the omega-3 fatty acid group, fasting triglycerides were significantly reduced by 31.2% compared to the placebo group. ”

2. Improvement of dry eye symptoms

Many people have dry eyes and use artificial tears frequently. Dry eye syndrome is a disease caused by lack of tears or excessive evaporation of tears. I took omega 3 for blood circulation health, but there are many people who said that the dryness of the eyes improved after taking it steadily.

In fact, a paper was published in Ophthalmology in 2017 that studied the effect of omega-3 intake on dry eye symptoms in dry eye patients .

“ Daily intake of both forms of long-chain omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs) in moderation for three months reduced tear osmotic pressure and increased tear stability in people with dry eye syndrome (DED). "

3. Improves inflammation

When a body tissue is injured or infected, an inflammatory response appears to prevent tissue damage as much as possible and to eliminate the infection. Many people do not take this seriously and think that taking anti-inflammatory drugs will get better soon. However , when inflammation becomes chronic, it can  develop into inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic otitis media, and ulcerative colitis, accompanied by body tissue damage .

In this regard, a paper published in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity in 2012 reported that inflammation improved when omega-3 was consumed .

“ Our data suggest that omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) may have a wide range of health benefits by reducing inflammation in overweight, sedentary middle-aged and older adults. "

Today, we looked at the various benefits of consuming omega-3. However, it is recommended that those taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, and antihypertensive drugs decide whether to consume omega3 through consultation with an expert, as omega3 increases the action of each and may cause side effects.

I hope you have a healthy day in body and mind. It was Jinny.
