Collagen Efficacy
1. Hair dryness and shine improvement
2. Hair thickness improvement
3. Osteoarthritis and cartilage recovery
Hello. A pharmacist who reads a dissertation.
What comes to mind when you hear the word 'collagen'? You may think of it as a nutritional ingredient  for skin health such as elasticity and wrinkle improvement  .

As collagen is widely used as an inner beauty material,  there have also been reports of reviews  saying 'I ate collagen for skin care and my hair got better'  . In fact, since collagen is a major component of human tissues such as hair and cartilage as  well as skin  , the academic community is paying attention to such public experiences and  is conducting various studies  considering that the intake of collagen may have a positive effect on hair as  well.
So, today, I would  like to take a look at the hair-related benefits of collagen that I didn't know about.
1.Improve hair dryness and shine
Collagen is a component that can be synthesized in the body, but  its decomposition rate is accelerated due to aging or exposure to UV rays. The most common symptom of this is  hair loss and wrinkles on the skin.

Therefore , while attempts to improve the condition of human tissues  through collagen intake  continued, in 2014, Nutrition & Food  published a study on the effects of nutritional supplements including collagen on nails, hair, and the outer surface of the skin .
" In subjects with more severe initial symptoms,  95% of  the subjects experienced significant improvements in dry and dull hair, 85% cracking and flaking, and 65% and 5  %  nail hardness  . concluded that it should be considered as an important, effective and possibly necessary component of  a managed diet  . ”

2. Improve hair thickness
As studies on the effects of collagen intake on various tissues of the human body  are progressing,  a thesis that focused on  the relationship between collagen intake and hair  was published in Nutrafoods in 2020  . This study  elucidates the effect of oral intake of collagen on hair thickness and hair follicle cells .
“ (Above) Oral intake of certain BCPs (bioactive collagen peptides)  resulted in a statistically significant increase in hair thickness compared to placebo. ”

3. Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Recovery
It is not only the skin and hair that  gradually lose strength as aging progresses  . In particular, interest in cartilage and joint health is growing.

In 2020,  a  study was reported in Rheumatology and Therapy on the effects of collagen derivatives on osteoarthritis and cartilage repair .
“ Current evidence shows  that supplementation with collagen derivatives  as food ingredients (oral collagen hydrolysate or raw collagen)  or drugs (intra-articular collagen hydrolysates)  may be a potential treatment or support strategy for patients with osteoarthritis  . . (Afterword) "

Today, in this paper, we looked at the many benefits of collagen. Cortisol, a hormone secreted when stressed,  breaks down collagen, so to keep hair and skin and other tissues  healthy, you should pay attention not only to collagen intake but also to  stress management.
I hope you have a healthy body and mind. More than that, it was Jinny.
